Day 10 MTG

its been 3 weeks of delay but finally i get to play some mtg and break out the enemies to lovers pride deck i was working on... pride month may have ended over a week ago but its never a bd time to celibrate the lgbt!

There is a lot to talk about with magic, some of whitch i disgussed here but i want to talk about a worry that has been buzzing about the community the last month or so, and thats marvel.

to begin, i dont hate UB, i brought the sonic secret lair in foil and think FF is genuinely one of magics best ever sets. Jagex confirmed on their osrs podcast they have reached out to WOTC about a runescape colab and i would freak out if it happened

Spiderman was a terrible first impression, but super heroes is a lot better, the designes are more interesting and the more i dig into it for commander the more i settle into what is inevitably now the new status quo, indeed i feel most people have done this. but there is still one worry abound and thats with the pacing of the infinity stones

1 infinity stone came with the spiderman set and we assumed the other 5 would be a cycle in superheroes. but no. we only got 1 stone...

this implys we are getting at least 4 more marvel products out of this arrangement, and people are not happy, me included

i do not want marvel to become a new setting with almost as many sets as inistrad! but it seems inevitable, at time of writing we dont know how well marvel has performed but im going to assume it did well

its a lost fight, if we are ever to be rid of universes beyond it will be when the crossover well dries up or when the game experiences a market crash or when hasbro goes tits up from miss-management

one thing i dont understand is the question of how marvel could encompas 6 whole sets? i know, in fact, for the records sake im going to say what the sets will be here!

Set 3 X-Men

curiously absent from super heroes were much of the X-Men, a full and rich cast of characters that (now marvel has the movie rites to them back) are experiencing a boom in popularity and a major push from marvel

this is the most obvious one and the one i will put money on comming to pass, of pollymarket has a bet avalable, i would take it

Set 4 Marvel Universe

also absent from heroes was a lot of marvels space faring heroes, notably the guardians of the galaxy.

while not as rich a well as X-Men space is a design space WOTC began to flesh out with edge of eternetys and will have done with star trek. the design space exists and this could also encompas some multiverse stuff, why not, coherence is clearly not important anymore to WOTC

Set 5 Marvel Vs Magic

this is my big swing, we know reality fracture will not bring UB into cannon, but a multiversal crossover set with magic and marvel characters directly interacting! thats an event, thats a pitch thats going to make headlines and its one we would need to build to, if this set was announced today or even next year there would be bedlam in the community, but 5 sets deep into the marvel experement, with the likely dozens of other UB sets that will have droped by then? much safer

if i was to be even bolder i would say this would spark an entire year of Vs sets, with magic bringing back popular IP in a full crossover event in the style of fortnite. I can feel this in my bones, this wont be a permanent change to the status quo, the whole event will end with...

Set 6 Infinity War

the obvious capstone would be a complete multiversal war upping the stakes from march of the machenes with an attack on the universes of magic and many others, likely with cross promotional tie ins to sell the scale

this set will conclude this crossover saga and seal back of the UB worlds resulting in magic and UB once again being separate. this also gives WOTC a chance to sunset UB with a cool event if the experement prooves to have lost its steam by whenever this comes out

this set will also see the printing of a card called 'ultimate battle' in reference to the song 'ultimate battle of ultimate destiny' which the circle jerking community has been memeing about for years now
